Practice Managers’
2025 Resolutions
(and Blind Spots) in 5 Charts

As dental practices ring in 2025, Pearl’s survey of AADOM members reveals a telling paradox: while practice managers remain locked in familiar battles with scheduling gaps, insurance hassles, and staffing shortages, technology adoption has fallen
to the bottom of their priority list—despite new AI tools emerging that could help tackle these very challenges head-on.

The Usual Suspects:
Scheduling, Insurance, Staffing

Practice managers remain
laser-focused on keeping operatories booked and busy:

improving scheduling efficiency
was the top-ranked priority, followed by hitting production goals and reducing turnover. Adopting new technologies fell toward the bottom, suggesting tech blind spots.

Tracking schedules, but backburnering communication

To achieve scheduling and production goals, managers are concentrating on what they can control: maintaining full schedules (75%) and minimizing last-minute cancellations (69%). Fewer are tracking case acceptance rates, a key metric that bridges scheduling success
to revenue growth.

How practice managers define scheduling success

...and how they measure it.

Insurance is vexing, but doesn’t have
to be

Nearly three-quarters of managers find insurance processes time-consuming, yet only 39% made streamlining them a top goal for 2025, reflecting a misplaced resignation. Insurance verification and benefits explanations were the most vexing; both can be automated using AI software.

Short staffed and extinguishing burnout

Respondents ranked reducing staff burnout and turnover as their third most important 2025 goal, with most choosing reducing burnout
as a top team goal.

But they may be overlooking systemic issues:
only 41% identified workflow bottlenecks as a top 2025 goal.

Technology in the blind spot

More than half of practice managers said their offices are keen to adopt new technologies, but only 16% are making it a top goal for 2025. When asked what tech they’d be interested in, however, here’s what they named.
